Mission

The mission of the Beta Iota Boulé Foundation (the “Boulé Foundation”) is two-fold: (1) to support programs that support the African American community and individuals in the areas of Education, Youth Development, Arts/Culture, Health/Human Services, Recreation or Civics where a small amount will have a big impact, and (2) to provide funding primarily for scholarships for African American young men from the Greater Hartford region to help with the costs of attending a 4-year accredited college or university.

Boulé Scholarship Program

Beta Iota Boulé Foundation helps to develop the next generation of African American leaders through its leadership training program. The program provides scholarships, individual mentorship from Boulé members, professional development coaching, and summer internships to young black men from the Farmington Valley Area who are pursuing higher education. Both undergraduate and graduate students participate in the program. Upon completing it, students have a greater understanding of their professional identities, their potential for success and the principles of leadership. Boulé Foundation Guidelines for Funding Request

The Boulé Foundation’s grant-making guidelines are as follows:

  • The Boulé Foundation evaluates applications for support year-round.
  • Awards must be consistent with the Boulé Foundation’s mission.
  • Awards must primarily benefit Greater Hartford residents.
  • An applicant must be a 501(c)(3) organization or have a fiscal agent that is.
  • The Boulé Foundation awards grants from $1,000 to $5,000 to support projects.
  • The Boulé Foundation does not seek to support events; rather, it supports projects and programs.
  • The Boulé Foundation will not fund an organization for more than two years in a row and generally does not fund capital campaigns.
  • Proposals requesting a modest sum to complete the funding required to do a project or to cover a program in crisis are encouraged.
  • The Boulé Foundation gives preference to organizations with operating budgets under $1.5 million. Grant applications are considered monthly between September and June of each year. In order to be considered for a grant, an applicant’s application must be submitted by or before the last day of the month preceding the month of the grant’s consideration. For example, to be considered for a grant in March, an applicant’s application must be submitted by the last day in February. Applicants will be notified of the Boulé Foundation’s decision by the second week of the month in which their application is considered.
